Performance Analysis and Improvement in Packet Loss Measurement Technique using BADABING Approach

Measurement and analysis of various network traffic attributes have played a major role for development of many network protocols and systems. Traffic parameters such as delay, loss, bandwidth, jitter etc are of due interest to design effective network systems. Utilities like PING can be used to measure delay and loss, but it is having poor results as it is suffered from loss asymmetry problem. End-to-end active measurements using probes is one of the way to measure packet loss and delay in the network and is part of our study to find the network reliability. However there is another measurement approach we could have used called passive measurement in which we can simply measure network traffic without injecting any packet in the network. In our evaluation approach we measured packet delay and loss using UDP probe process and simulated using basic BADABING algorithm. The implementation of this BADABING algorithmic approach produces better results over the simple UDP probe process model.
